You can feel the winter coming on at King Parrot Cottages, the temperature has dropped and the days are shorter.
Good autumn rain has greened up the environment, everywhere you look rich greens are back in the landscape; a beautiful and welcome change. The rainforest is returning to its natural state; Aquila Creek is flowing at a good level, lichens, fungi and moss are beginning to grow over trees and fallen logs, there is freshness in the air.
Winter Activities
Activities don’t disappear at King Parrot in the winter they just change shape. As soon as you arrive we suggest lighting your wood fire, the cottage will be cosy and warm in no time. Fires can be kept going at a low level whilst you are out and about. The bush is a wonderful environment to explore but please take special note of the conditions required for walking at King Parrot. The games room with table tennis, air hockey, soccer and board games is popular and the pot belly stove can be fired up to keep the room warm. The mini-golf is still an option but the salt-water swimming pool is not heated so might be best to give it a wide berth. Of course that well-known activity called rest is also a great idea. You may wish to just curl up in front of the fire with a good book, board games or watch TV, in between outdoor excursions. The view out across Pennyroyal Valley is always beautiful and mostly spectacular at dawn and dusk. Don’t forget to take in the night sky, the stars and the milky way blaze on clear evenings.
Tourist Attractions
Then, of course, you have the wonderful tourist attractions of the Otway Ranges and the Great Ocean Road at your fingertips. Long beach strolls, an abundance of bushwalking tracks featuring picturesque waterfalls, gourmet food growers and providers. The Otway Fly and Live Wire tree-walks are very popular family activities.
Kangaroos and wallabies abound during winter and the birdlife is also abundant; king parrots, rosellas, kookaburras, owls and wrens just to name a few.
