Say hello to some of the animals who call King Parrot home.
Many guests tell us that meeting the animals becomes one of the highlights of their stay. From curious donkeys to gentle horses and our resident Highland cow, life at King Parrot is shared with a few furry locals.
Charlie and Paddington the Highland Cows
Charlie and Paddington are King Parrot’s resident Highland cows. Their impressive horns and shaggy coats can make them look rather serious, but they’re actually gentle and quite shy, often keeping a watchful eye on visitors from afar. While many of us reach for an extra jumper in winter, these two seem to think the colder and mistier the weather, the better.
Gypsy & Coco the Miniature Donkeys
Gypsy and Coco are always keeping an eye out for visitors at the fence. Gypsy, the white donkey, is particularly fond of carrots and isn’t afraid to bray loudly if she thinks there might be one coming her way. With their cheeky personalities and gentle natures, the donkeys have become favourites among many returning guests.
Tess and Spike the Horses
Tess may be retired, but don’t let that fool you—she still runs the paddock with a firm hoof. The donkeys, alpacas and even the resident kangaroos all seem to know who’s boss. Spike is second in charge, although we suspect that position comes with very little actual authority.
MacPac, BackPack & the Ewes
MacPac and BackPack are the quiet guardians of the paddock. With watchful eyes and calm natures, they help keep an eye on the ewes and their lambs as life unfolds around the farm.
The Yabbies
Not all King Parrot locals live on four legs. The main paddock is home to yabbies, and guests young and old discover the simple joy of catching one for the very first time.
Yabby nets are available in the shed laundry for guests to borrow. Please return all yabbies to the water so future guests can enjoy the experience too.
Sometimes the greatest adventures are the simplest ones: a bucket in hand and a little patience by the water’s edge.
Please supervise children near water.
Resident Wildlife
King Parrot is also home to abundant native wildlife. Kangaroos, wallabies, echidnas and birdlife are regularly spotted throughout the property, particularly at dawn and dusk.
Sharing the Land with Our Animals
Guests are welcome to enter paddocks while exploring the property, yabbying or accessing the bush walking tracks. Children must be closely supervised by an adult at all times.
Our animals are gentle and much-loved members of the King Parrot family. As with all animals, they can become startled or move unexpectedly, so please give them plenty of space and allow them to approach on their own terms.
If you would like to offer the horses or donkeys a carrot, please do so over the fence only, using a flat palm and under adult supervision.
For the safety of our animals, wildlife and guests, dogs are strictly not permitted inside animal paddocks.
