Renew your spirit in nature

King Parrot Cottages and Event Centre offers a peaceful place to stay in the Otways, just a short drive from the Great Ocean Road and Lorne. Set on the north facing hillside of the Pennyroyal Valley, it is a space to slow down, breathe deeply, and reconnect.

With five self contained cottages, a lodge and hall, and a small campground, King Parrot welcomes couples, families and groups coming together for holidays, celebrations, and time away.

Each cottage is thoughtfully designed and fully self contained, ranging from one to four bedrooms. You will find comfort in the simple details, with warm interiors, wood fires, outdoor seating, and views across the surrounding hills and bush. It is a place to settle in and feel at ease, in every season.

The campground offers a more grounded stay, set within the forest on the valley floor, with a small number of sites and cabin tents for those wanting to immerse themselves in nature.

Connect with nature

A network of bush tracks invites you to explore at your own pace. Wander through changing landscapes, from the rainforest valley floor to the north facing hills of the Pennyroyal Valley. Follow the creek through fern gullies and beneath towering eucalypts, and discover our private waterfall.

Each season brings something different.

In summer, long days give way to soft evenings and glowing sunsets over the valley. Guests often spend their days by the pool or in the cool of the forest, ending with a quiet drink on the balcony.

Autumn brings stillness, clear nights and a gentle shift in the air. It is a beautiful time for slow walks, sunrises and stargazing.

In winter, morning mist settles across the hills before lifting to reveal deep green landscapes. Some head out for a brisk walk, while others stay in by the fire with a book and something warm to drink.

Spring is a time of renewal, with wildflowers, flowing creeks and abundant wildlife returning to the land.

“We had already fallen in love with the Otways, but when we first visited King Parrot, we felt something truly special. It inspired us to create a place where people could come together, connect with nature and share meaningful time with those around them.”

Dogs are welcome

Dogs are part of the family and whether you are looking for a family getaway, seeking solitude or planning a romantic break, you don’t need to leave yours behind. King Parrot is a beautiful place for both guests and their dogs, with bushland to wander, sniff and explore together.

To help keep the space peaceful for everyone, we ask that dogs are kept on lead around the cottages and animals, and are only off lead on bush tracks when under close control.

Dog bowls are provided, and you are welcome to bring your own bedding or request a travel mat.

Celebration and gatherings

If you are planning a celebration or group gathering, we ask that the property is booked in full for a minimum of two nights. Please get in touch to talk through options, availability, terms and conditions.

The lodge and hall, together with the cottages, create a beautiful setting for retreats, workshops, small conferences and weddings. It is a place where people can gather, share experiences, and create lasting memories in a natural and peaceful environment.

Gadubanud Country

We recognise King Parrot stands on what always was and always will be Gadubanud Country. We acknowledge descendants of the Gadubanud, along with others identifying as Maar, as the traditional owners of these unceded lands, waters and skies. Our acknowledgement also extends to the neighbouring Wadawurrung and to all Aboriginal and Torres Strait Islander peoples. We pay our respects to Country, the people, and Elders: past, present and emerging.

Gadubanud Country stretches between Painkalac and Yan Yan Gurt creeks, up the Barwon River through Barramunga, down the Gellibrand River to the ocean, and runs all the coast between. Five clans managed the area with fire to sustain life of Country and maintain travel corridors through the ranges. Cultural ties with the Gulidjan to the north and Kirrae Whurrung to the southwest are observed, and it has been said that Gadubanud translates to ‘King Parrot language’; a dialect belonging to the Gunditjmara language group. However, colonial atrocities and the isolation of the rainforest have rendered knowledge of Gadubanud custom and tradition a relative mystery.

Today still, the Otways can encompass inhabitants to feel beyond reach of the wider world.  We are grateful to experience such solace here, like many generations before us.

Living in a busy city I look for holidays that provide a genuine break for all the family. Less than 30 minutes to the beach and foodie towns but back to the cottage for a genuine retreat. All I heard for days was trees and birds. Even a wallaby wandered by to check on the grass. Forest walks right on your doorstep. Pool with a view was great – water temperature perfect. Regular chats and pats to the livestock. My old fave board game Scrabble now the new family fave thanks to the set in our lounge. Felt a genuine sense of rejuvenation after our 4 night stay.

We absolutely loved our stay at King Parrot cottages! ❤️ our family booked 3 of the cottages for 2 nights to attend my sister’s wedding which was taking place in a nearby town and we were all so thrilled with our cottages from the first moment we arrived on the beautiful property till we drove away two days later vowing we would be back to stay again. The property is huge and so lush and gorgeous. So green and fresh and peaceful – lovely views. The cottages are all within great proximity to each other but not too close to each other at all! You get all the privacy and peace you need but it’s only a short stroll to visit friends or family staying in other cottages. The accommodation is extremely clean and has been decorated and equipped very thoughtfully. On top of all the usual items you’d hope to find in a cottage kitchen there was also a toaster and sandwich press and a coffee plunger! Plus a microwave to heat up some essentials like heat packs and hot chocolate! There was a bag of delicious ground coffee and some lovely local jam and delicious T2 teas that we really enjoyed. So nice to have the fireplace too and also dual heating and cooling wall units. I spoke to Nicole (one of the delightful owners at King Parrot) a few times when I needed advice over the phone and she was always incredibly helpful and lovely to speak to. I would highly recommend King Parrot cottages! I’m looking forward to staying there again one day. Also – I nearly forgot to mention! They’re pet friendly ❤️

Beautiful surroundings, we loved being in the lap of nature. Our cottage was clean and had all of our basic needs…there was even stuff kept for our husky. The wren, the kookaburras, parakeets, parrots, the kangaroos were an absolute delight as were the resident farm animals. My son, Aunty and my spouse and I enjoyed the games room too. 100% recommended for an amazing nature holiday

Excellent venue that provided a much a needed break from the city. I LOVED that it was pet friendly and my babe (toy poodle) thoroughly enjoyed being taken on walks and saying hi to the horses. The cottage was in excellent condition and I immediately felt at home the moment I stepped in. As a single travelling by herself (and my toy poodle) I felt safe and at peace on the gorgeous estate. Will definitely be back!

Our stay a King Parrot was about creating memories, as my Dad is unwell. And that we did! We stayed in Manna gum a single storey accommodation perfect for those less mobile. There was 10 of us. The accommodation was well equipped, and surprisingly spacious, comfortable and super clean. Staff from the owners right through to the caretakers were warm and welcoming, and happy to have a yarn. It has something for everyone: from Nonnas to little Nieces and Nephews. The gorgeous scenery and nature that surrounded us, was just magic! Couldn’t have taken my Dad to a more beautiful place. Thank you for just everything.
