Set in a natural clearing beside Aquila Creek, the King Parrot Rainforest Campground offers families, couples and small groups a peaceful camping experience surrounded by tree ferns, towering gums and the sounds of the Otways bush.

The campground has six campsites: three sites with permanent cabin-style tents and three sites for guests bringing their own tents. Campsites can be booked individually, or the entire campground can be reserved exclusively for one group, subject to availability.

To preserve the space and peaceful atmosphere, the campground is limited to a maximum of 18 guests in total across all six campsites.

Bushwalking tracks lead from the campground through the surrounding forest and towards King Parrot’s seasonal waterfall. Wildlife and native birds are often seen around the creek and throughout the valley.

Choose your campsite

Before booking

Choose an individual campsite or reserve all six for exclusive use. Maximum 18 guests across the campground. AWD or 4WD vehicles only—no two-wheel-drive access. Family-friendly stays only; strictly no parties or loud music.

Permanent-tent campsites

The campground has three permanent cabin-style tents with solid roofs and canvas walls, doors and windows.

Each permanent tent contains:

One double-bed mattress
Two sets of bunk-bed mattresses

Guests must bring their own sheets, doonas or sleeping bags, pillows and towels. Linen and bedding are not supplied in the campground.

Bring-your-own-tent campsites

Three campsites are available for guests bringing their own tents and camping equipment.

The campground is suitable for tents and small camping trailers only. Caravans and large trailers cannot access the campground.

Individual and exclusive bookings

When campsites are booked individually, other campers may be staying elsewhere in the campground and the campground amenities are shared.

An exclusive campground booking reserves all six campsites for your group. The maximum capacity remains 18 guests, including adults and children.

King Parrot cottage guests may occasionally pass through the campground while accessing the bushwalking tracks and seasonal waterfall, including when the campground has been booked exclusively.

Important vehicle-access information

The campground is accessible by AWD and 4WD vehicles only. Two-wheel-drive vehicles are not permitted on the campground access road under any circumstances.

The access road is steep and can become slippery or difficult after wet weather. This restriction applies regardless of the type of two-wheel-drive vehicle or the driver’s experience.

Every vehicle entering the campground must be AWD or 4WD. Please ensure everyone in your booking understands this requirement before travelling.

Drinking water, power and communications

There is no power in the campground, permanent tents, camp kitchen or amenities.

Water at the camp kitchen is suitable for washing dishes only and must not be used for drinking. Guests must bring enough drinking water for their entire stay.

Mobile reception is limited and unreliable in the campground, and Wi-Fi is not available.

A family-friendly and peaceful campground

The King Parrot campground is intended for family holidays, couples, nature-based stays and quiet gatherings with friends.

Parties, events, loud music and raucous behaviour are not permitted under any bookings. This applies to individual campsite bookings and exclusive campground bookings.

Only registered guests included in the booking may enter or stay in the campground unless prior approval has been provided by King Parrot.

Noise must remain at a respectful level at all times, with quiet hours beginning at 10 pm. Sound travels easily through the valley, and all campers must respect other guests, neighbouring properties, wildlife and the natural environment.

Unauthorised parties, excessive noise, unregistered visitors or unsafe behaviour are a breach of the booking conditions and may result in the booking being terminated.

Campfires and the natural environment

Campfires are permitted only in designated fire pits, when weather and fire conditions allow and with prior approval from King Parrot.

No fires are permitted on Total Fire Ban days or whenever management determines that conditions are unsafe. Fires must never be left unattended and must be completely extinguished after use.

The campground is part of a natural bush environment with wildlife, uneven ground, creek areas and changing weather conditions. Children must be supervised at all times.

Seasonal availability

The campground operates seasonally. Availability and access may be affected by rainfall, ground conditions, fire danger and other weather-related factors.
