It’s probably one of the questions we’re asked most by couples planning their wedding at King Parrot Cottages and Event Centre.
The truth is, living in the Otways, we’ve learnt that the weather has a mind of its own. Sometimes we can have sunshine, mist and rain all in the one day! But honestly, with a little planning, a rainy wedding can still be absolutely beautiful.
A few of our favourite tips…
🌿 Bring a second pair of shoes.
If you’re hoping to go ahead with your outdoor ceremony, pack a pair of boots or even gumboots to wear down to the ceremony. Once it’s time for photos or the reception, simply change back into your heels or dress shoes.
Trust us… guests dressed up in their wedding outfits and gumboots always make for a few laughs and some fantastic photos!
☂️ Have a basket of umbrellas ready.
Clear umbrellas (or matching black or white ones) not only keep everyone dry, they also look beautiful in your wedding photos.
🧥 Bring something warm.
A nice jacket, shawl or cosy blanket is perfect for wrapping yourselves in between photos. It keeps you warm and often becomes part of the story of the day.
📸 Don’t be afraid of a little rain.
Some of our favourite wedding photos have been taken in the mist, with moody skies or a light drizzle. There is something really magical about the Otways when the weather rolls in.
🏡 Have a wet weather plan.
Sometimes it really is just too wet to stay outside, and that’s okay.
Our Hall makes the perfect wet weather ceremony space. Open the bifold doors, stand in the doorway with the valley behind you, while your family and friends stay warm and dry inside. You still get that beautiful connection to nature without everyone getting soaked.
And probably our biggest piece of advice…
💚 Don’t spend the week leading up to your wedding stressing about the forecast.
The weather will do what the weather does.
Your guests won’t remember whether it rained. They’ll remember the laughs, the tears, the hugs, the food, the dancing and the incredible day they shared with you.
Sometimes the rain simply becomes part of your story.
